Insurance, Fundraising and Community Engagement #
Understand how insurance, fundraising, media and community engagement support your Community Supporter Group throughout the CRISP.
At a glance #
- CRSA provides limited insurance cover for specific CRISP activities.
- Fundraising helps prepare your group for a refugee household’s arrival.
- Community engagement and responsible storytelling help strengthen the CRISP.
Insurance #
CRSA maintains insurance policies that cover its own activities and provides Community Supporter Groups with limited insurance cover for specific activities undertaken as part of the CRISP.
This cover does not extend to all general activities or to activities that occur before the refugee household arrives in Australia.
For more information about CRSA’s approach to risk management and insurance, refer to the CRSA Group Preparation Guidebook.
Community Supporter Groups are not expected to provide ongoing financial support.
Fundraising is generally used to prepare for on-arrival expenses while also helping engage the wider community in your group’s CRISP journey.
If your group would like to offer tax-deductible receipts to donors, consider fundraising through a local charity already known to your group, such as a church or not-for-profit organisation.
Alternatively, information about accessing tax-deductible fundraising through CRSA is available in the CRSA Group Preparation Guidebook.
Media and promotion #
To protect the privacy and safety of refugee participants, never share personal information with the media without their informed and express consent.
The CRSA Promotions Toolkit includes wording, images, presentation materials and practical guidance to help groups promote their activities responsibly.
Building community support #
Your group’s experiences may encourage others to become volunteers or establish Community Supporter Groups of their own.
Consider maintaining a list of supporters so you can share updates throughout your group’s CRISP journey and invite people to contribute through occasional, low-commitment volunteering opportunities, such as helping source furniture or household goods.
“Strong community sponsorship grows through practical support, respectful storytelling and lasting community connections.”
