Building community connections #
Encourage the Refugee Household to participate in the wider community through local clubs, groups and activities that match their interests. Community participation helps build confidence, expand social networks and create regular opportunities to practise conversational English.
Local sports clubs and social groups can play an important role in helping newcomers establish friendships and develop a sense of belonging. Some organisations may also waive or reduce membership fees for refugee households.
Finding local opportunities #
Local libraries, councils and neighbourhood houses are excellent places to discover English language classes, community activities and recreational programs. These services often provide welcoming environments where newcomers can build skills, meet local people and participate in community life.
