Orientation #
Orientation is an ongoing process that helps newcomers become familiar with life, services and everyday living in Australia.
At a glance #
- Orientation begins on arrival and continues throughout the year.
- Start with practical local information before introducing broader topics over time.
- Use CRSA’s Orientation Guide to support conversations with the Household.
Orientation is an ongoing process #
CRSA Orientation Guide
Orientation is most effective when delivered through regular conversations rather than as a single information session.
During the first few weeks, focus on introducing local services, facilities and everyday activities. As the Household settles in, conversations may naturally expand to topics such as workplace rights, gender equality and other aspects of life in Australia.

Building understanding over time #
Orientation is a gradual learning process. Rather than trying to explain everything at once, provide information as it becomes relevant to the Household’s experiences and goals.
For additional guidance, refer to the Living in Australia – Customs, Values and Inclusion section later in this Guidebook.
“Orientation works best as a series of ongoing conversations that build confidence, understanding and independence over time.”
