Ways to Consider and Mitigate Risks #

At a glance #

  • Every activity should be considered with safety in mind.
  • Refugee participants decide for themselves whether to take part in activities.
  • Higher-risk activities may require additional precautions or insurance.

Managing risk together #

CRSA provides guidance, resources and support to help groups participate safely in its programs. However, each program group member remains responsible for considering the risks associated with activities they organise and taking reasonable steps to reduce those risks.

Refugee participants should also be supported to make their own informed decisions about whether they and their dependants wish to participate in an activity.

Practical ways to reduce risk #

  • Consider the level of risk before planning an activity. #

  • Discuss activities with everyone involved so participants can make informed choices. #

  • Use common-sense safety measures appropriate to the activity. #

  • Consider whether additional insurance may be appropriate for higher-risk events. #

  • Check whether venues or third-party providers have their own insurance cover. #

Examples #
