Independence and Autonomy Approach #
CRSA’s programs are built on the principle that all participants make their own informed decisions and take responsibility for the activities they choose to join.

Independence and autonomy #
CRSA’s programs recognise the independence, agency and autonomy of everyone involved, including both Community Supporter Groups and refugee newcomers.
Rather than directing or managing day-to-day interactions, CRSA supports participants to make informed decisions and work together respectfully throughout the program.
Making informed decisions #
Before organising an activity, groups should discuss it with everyone involved and ensure participants have the information they need to decide whether they wish to take part.
If someone believes an activity is unsuitable or unsafe for themselves or their dependants, they should communicate those concerns. If those concerns cannot be resolved, they should not feel obliged to participate.
Understanding responsibility #
Individuals who choose to participate in an activity, or who allow their dependants to participate, accept responsibility for that decision and the risks that may reasonably arise from it.
This principle reflects the shared responsibility that underpins CRSA’s programs while respecting the independence of every participant.
