Early learning opportunities help young children build confidence, develop social skills and become familiar with English before they begin formal schooling.

Kindergarten and preschool #
CSGs are encouraged to help families enrol preschool-aged children in kindergarten or preschool when they become eligible. Available programs and enrolment arrangements differ between regions, so CSGs should consult their local council to understand the options available.
Supporting early learning #
Children who have opportunities to hear and use English before starting school may find the transition into formal education easier.
For children who are not yet old enough for kindergarten or preschool, CSGs are encouraged to help families participate in other early learning opportunities, including:
- Local council playgroups.
- Storytime sessions and children’s activities at local libraries.
- Other community-based early childhood programs available in their area.
These activities support children’s social development, early learning and exposure to English while helping families build connections within their local community.
