Policy Brief: How Community Sponsorship Can Support Government Objectives in 2025 and Beyond

CRSA has developed a new policy brief on the potential of community sponsorship to advance objectives of the Labor government following its re-election in May 2025.

There has never been a more important and strategic time to advance Labor’s commitment to further support global resettlement efforts by progressively expanding community sponsorship and other complementary pathways to 10,000 additional places per annum – a pledge made by the Australian government at the Global Refugee Forum in December 2023 and the 2023 ALP National Platform.

This brief demonstrates how community sponsorship can support Labor government’s priorities, as articulated in the 2023 ALP National Platform and recent ministerial statements on migration, social cohesion, and humanitarian policy. The brief also contains a recommended action plan with short to medium-term steps that policy makers can take to achieve these goals.
