CRSA has released a new policy brief exploring how community sponsorship can be leveraged as a powerful emergency response tool during humanitarian crises. When conflicts erupt—from the fall of Kabul to the invasion of Ukraine —both government and the broader Australian public share a desire to do something practical to help. The brief demonstrates how community sponsorship offers a practical, robust, flexible and scalable way for government to harness this generosity from cities and towns across the country.
The CRISP provides an established framework for community sponsorship that delivers strong settlement outcomes. Some targeted adjustments to the parameters of the CRISP could enable the program’s existing frameworks, infrastructure and know-how to become a tool that could be rapidly deployed and scaled to provide surge reception capacity during times of crisis.
CRSA recommends the Australian government work with civil society to develop an ’emergency response’ setting for the CRISP, which adapts the successful model for use during humanitarian emergencies.
