Draft Framework for a New Approach to Named Community Sponsorship

CRSA is leading civil society efforts to design a new “named” or “linked” community sponsorship model — a better way for Australians to sponsor refugees they know or identify. Developed by CRSA in partnership with the Refugee Council of Australia and informed by consultations with more than 30 civil society representatives, including settlement organisations, grassroots networks and academics, this framework offers an alternative to the heavily critiqued Community Support Program (CSP). It envisages a model that engages a wider cross-section of the Australian community, draws on resources beyond the refugee diaspora, and offers a sustainable, transparent application process.

An updated framework, informed by consultations held throughout 2026, will be published by the end of 2026.
