Have you always wanted to do something practical and meaningful to support refugees in your community?
Apply to become a mentor!
We are seeking applications for the next round of our ground-breaking Group Mentorship Program, through which we train community volunteer groups to provide welcome and practical support to newly arrived refugees. Once groups are trained, they are then matched with a refugee household living locally. To find out more, check out our detailed program information pack here.
We piloted the program last year to demonstrate the viability of some key features of a future community sponsorship program, as well as develop the tools and know-how that will be required to see such a program run successfully in the future. You can read more about the pilot program here.
The program has been such a great success, with so many groups around the country eagerly taking up the opportunity to help us trailblaze a new way of supporting refugee newcomers that we have decided to run it again!
Here’s how you can get involved:
How to access and complete the application form:
- Attend an information session
Make sure at least one member of your group attends a public information session. This can be completed by attending a live online session or watching a pre-recorded session. You can register for an upcoming information session here or watch a pre-recorded one here.
- Receive a link to the application form
A link to the online application form will be emailed to all attendees who have attended an information session or watched a pre-recorded one. If you are expecting to receive the link, but haven’t yet, please contact Nicole Watkins at Nicole.email@example.com.
- Nominate a ‘Group Coordinator’ to start completing the application form
Prospective groups are requested to nominate a Group Coordinator to initiate and complete the application form. The Group Coordinator is the main liaison person between CRSA and the rest of the group members. This role/person can be changed after the application process is finalised by contacting CRSA.
- Group Coordinator completes initial part of the application form
The group coordinator will be responsible for initiating the application process as well as completing additional information pertaining to your group’s community, networks, skills and resources in the application. However, we strongly encourage all group members to be involved in providing information for the application beyond their personal details.
- Other group members complete their part of the application form
Once the initial part of the application has been completed by the group coordinator, the group coordinator will receive an email with a link to share with all other group members. Other group members will then need to fill in their personal information as well as upload their clearance checks using this link. We encourage group members to obtain clearance checks prior to filling in their part of the application. This group information, together with individual member information, will comprise your group’s application for the GMP.
- Group Coordinator submits application form
Once all group information and individual member information is uploaded to the form, the Group Coordinator can submit the application to CRSA.
Note: If you haven’t formed a group yet, you can still attend/watch an information session and receive a link to the application form. CRSA can also help in connecting you with other members interested from your local area looking for a group. Let us know if you would like us to do that.
Once the completed application form is submitted, CRSA will then review all applications and notify group coordinators of the outcome of their application. Successful groups will be sent a confirmation letter with an outline of the next steps within 4 weeks of CRSA receiving the completed application.
Successful groups will need to complete the following steps to meet all requirements for the program.
We have also compiled a comprehensive information pack that provides a detailed overview of the program, the application process and all key resources and links you will need to apply for the Group Mentorship Program.
You can access and download the information pack here.
We are thrilled that you are interested in being a part of this ground-breaking initiative to provide holistic, community-led support to refugees. We look forward to receiving your applications.
